The 930 Project: A Legacy Reborn with Auto Icons x Weinkath Automotive
On March 31, 2025, Auto Icons unveiled two extraordinary creation - one at 1:24 scale, the other full-sized but equally meticulous. What began as a passion project to craft the ultimate collector’s edition model of the 1988 Porsche 930 Turbo soon inspired the restoration of the real car itself.
The event brought together collectors, enthusiasts, and master craftsmen to witness the debut of a highly detailed miniature replica - designed to capture the essence of the original machine down to the last stitch. But the celebration didn’t stop there. Inspired by the precision of the toy car project, an Auto Icons client embarked on a full-scale restoration of his own 930 Turbo. In collaboration with Weinkath Automotive, this original Singapore-delivered 930 Turbo was meticulously restored to its former glory.
Both unveilings - the miniature and the real - stood as testaments to heritage, craftsmanship, and passion, proving that attention to detail knows no scale.
A Childhood Dream Turned Reality
For Colin Chow, founder of Auto Icons, his passion for the Porsche 930 Turbo began long before this restoration project. As a child, he was captivated by model cars, but one detail always bothered him - the interiors often failed to reflect the craftsmanship of the real machines. That vision stayed with him, and years later, he set out to change it.
Determined to bridge the gap between model cars and real automotive artistry, Colin commissioned a Father-son Model Car builder, inspired by Tamiya’s iconic hobby car kits, to create a highly detailed miniature replica of the 1988 Porsche 930 Turbo. Unlike traditional toy cars, this edition would feature an interior crafted to reflect the actual luxury and precision of the original vehicle. Every stitch, every material choice, and every design element was meticulously recreated to pay homage to the car’s heritage.
Recreating the 930 Turbo in miniature form was an incredible challenge,” said the toy manufacturer behind the project. “We wanted to capture every detail under Colin’s vision—the sleek lines, the refined interior, the essence of the craftsmanship. Just like the real car, this model tells a story of passion and precision.

As fate would have it, one of Auto Icons’ clients owned the exact Porsche 930 Turbo that Colin had envisioned. Inspired by the miniature model’s attention to detail, the client saw an opportunity to bring the same level of craftsmanship to his own car. What started as a tribute to automotive artistry soon evolved into a full-scale restoration project, bringing the 930 Turbo back to life in spectacular fashion.

Over the course of months, Gerritt and his team in Germany carefully reworked the interior, keeping true to the car’s heritage. Once completed, the entire interior was shipped back to Singapore for final assembly - bringing the 930 back to life in the very city where its journey began.

For the car’s owner, the restoration was more than just a project - it was a deeply personal journey. Seeing the finished product for the first time was an emotional moment.
For the paint, I’ve always loved how it looks in its original silver - especially when it's in motion. As for the interior, green has always been a favorite. Colin not only gave me the confidence to go with it, but also helped choose the Mckenzie Tartan pattern that works beautifully with the different shades of green on the chairs and doors. Huge thanks to Colin for the great suggestions. And thank you for coming all the way to Singapore, Gerritt, to bring these ideas to life - the details are just incredible. Hopefully, this won’t be the last for myself, Auto Icons, and Weinkath Automotive, I would love to create more cars together in the future.
