Few small-displacement cars have earned a reputation quite like the Fiat Abarth 850 TC Nürburgring Corsa. Built during an era when lightweight engineering and clever tuning could embarrass far larger machinery, the 850 TC became one of Carlo Abarth’s most successful competition cars, dominating touring car racing throughout Europe in the early 1960s.
This particular variant, the Nürburgring Corsa, was created to commemorate Abarth’s class victory at the 1961 Nürburgring 500km endurance race. Already a focused homologation special, the Nürburgring Corsa took things a step further with distinctive competition-inspired details that have since become iconic among collectors.
Most recognisable is the signature open rear engine cover, propped open to improve cooling during competition use, alongside the exposed rear bumper arrangement developed for homologation purposes. These details gave the tiny Abarth an unmistakable silhouette and reflected the no-nonsense engineering philosophy behind the marque during its golden era.
Powered by Abarth’s spirited tuned inline-four and weighing very little, the 850 TC delivered a driving experience built entirely around momentum, agility and character. It is exactly this analogue charm that has made the model increasingly sought after among collectors today.
Production numbers were exceptionally limited, with fewer than 1,000 Fiat Abarth 850 TCs believed to have been produced in total, and significantly fewer examples specified as Nürburgring Corsas. Finding one today is rare. Finding one that has remained under long-term enthusiast ownership is rarer still.
This example has spent the last 15 years under the same ownership in Singapore, carefully preserved and enjoyed as part of a discerning collection. It now presents a unique opportunity for collectors looking to acquire an important and increasingly hard-to-source piece of Abarth’s competition history.
